F.:0.5% max or as per the customer’s request; Loss on drying:0.5% max. or as per the customer’s request; =============================================================================== Uses: 2-Chloro-5-nitrobenzal-dehyde is primarily used as an organic synthesis intermediate, with extensive applications in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries: Pharmaceutical Intermediate: It is used for synthesizing various drug active ingredients, as well as impurity reference standards or synthetic precursors for drugs; Industrial Applications: It is employed in the production of plant growth regulators and other fine chemicals; Research Reagent: In laboratories, it serves as a general organic building block for constructing complex molecular structures, commonly utilized in pharmaceutical research and chemical studies. =============================================================================== Synthesis Route: Direct Nitration of o-Chlorobenzal-dehyde This is the most direct and industrially common synthesis method. Using o-chlorobenzal-dehyde (2-Chlorobenzal-dehyde) as the starting material, electrophilic aromatic substitution is carried out with mixed acid (a mixture of concentrated nitric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid). A nitro group (-NO?) is selectively introduced at the 5-position of the benzene ring (i.e., the meta position relative to the aldehyde group), resulting in the target product 2-chloro-5-nitrobenzal-dehyde. The reaction requires strict control of temperature and reaction time to avoid over-nitration or oxidation side reactions. Since the aldehyde group is a meta-directing group, nitration mainly occurs at its meta position, i.e., the ortho position of the chlorine atom (5-position), meeting the regioselectivity requirements. Alternative Route: Friedel-Crafts Acylation from Chloronitrobenzene Another feasible route uses 1-chloro-3-nitrobenzene (3-Chloro-1-nitrobenzene) as the raw material, introducing an aldehyde group via Friedel-Crafts acylation. This method typically involves reacting carbon monoxide and hydrogen chloride in the presence of a catalyst, or first synthesizing an acyl chloride followed by hydrolysis. However, this route involves more steps, and the presence of the nitro group may reduce the reactivity of the aromatic ring, making it less commonly used than direct nitration. Other Possible Routes Preparation through oxidation of 2-chloro-5-nitrotoluene, but this raw material is not readily available, and the oxidation process may produce by-products. Through diazotization-chlorination (Sandmeyer reaction) of 2-amino-5-nitrobenzal-dehyde, but this route has higher costs and is suitable for small-scale high-purity requirements (for reference only). Uses : 2-Chloro-5-nitrobenzal-dehyde is mainly used as an organic synthesis intermediate and is widely applied in the fields of medicine and chemical industry.
