Key Applications: It is an important intermediate for herbicides. It is used to synthesize various pharmaceutical raw materials and fine chemicals, such as amino diol compounds. ============================================================================== Synthesis Route: The industrial synthesis of 2-Chloro-4-Nitrotoluene is mainly achieved through the chlorination reaction of p-nitrotoluene, with the specific route as follows: Raw Material: p-Nitrotoluene (4-nitrotoluene) Catalyst: Iron filings (Fe) or iron(III) chloride (FeCl₃), with a small amount of iodine (I₂) added as a co-catalyst Reaction Conditions: Heat p-nitrotoluene to 55–62 °C Pass chlorine gas (Cl₂) into the mixture under stirring, controlling the reaction temperature at 50–62 °C React for several hours until the theoretical amount of chlorine gas is absorbed Post-treatment: After the reaction, wash with dilute hydrochloric acid to remove impurities Neutralize with sodium carbonate solution Finally, wash with water, cool to precipitate crystals Filter, dry to obtain the finished product Reaction Equation (Simplified): 4-CH₃-C₆H₄-NO₂ + Cl₂ → 2-Cl-4-CH₃-C₆H₄-NO₂ (p-nitrotoluene → 2-chloro-4-nitrotoluene) This method is suitable for both laboratory-scale preparation and industrial large-scale production, with mature technology and relatively high yield.
