Slowly drip in bromine, and maintain a gentle boiling state for about 1 hour after the reaction starts. Subsequently, heat to 60°C, continue heating for 45 minutes until the brown vapor of bromine disappears. After the reaction is complete, filter out the iron filings and wash with water. The product is separated by steam distillation, and the distillate is collected. The residue is cooled, dried, and recrystallized with methanol to finally obtain purified 1,4-dibromobenzene. The traditional method has a yield of approximately 10%. In recent years, to improve efficiency and yield, the ultrasonic synthesis method has been developed and applied. This method can achieve a yield as high as 80% at lower temperatures and in shorter times (for reference only).
