Properties:
Specific gravity: 0.917, stable in
dry air, hydrolyze and cause combustion in moist air. It is
soluble in organic solvents such as ether, tetrahydrofuran
and so on. It can reduce aldehyde, ketone, acid, acid anhydride,
ester, quinone and acyl chloride into alcohol, reduce nitrile
into primary amine and reduce halogenated hydrocarbon into
hydrocarbon. But, it usually can't hydrogenate carbon-carbon
double bond.
Uses: used as reducing agent in pharmaceutical, perfume,
pesticide and other fine organic synthesis.
