Melting point 133 °C, boiling point 344 °C (102.4 kPa), 194 °C (1.6 kPa), relative density 1.310 (20/4 °C). Insoluble in cold water Chemicalbook, slightly soluble in hot water and ether, soluble in ethanol. It can reduce Ferring's liquid and react with concentrated sulfuric acid to form biphenylyl. Amalgam with sodium in ethanol forms hydrogenated benzoyl. At 250 °C, it reacts with hydroiodic acid to form biphenylyl.
